BOSTON -- Boston Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia will remain in the hospital until Monday, according to manager Terry Francona.

Saltalamacchia was placed on the disabled list Thursday with an infection in his lower right leg. Originally, the schedule to keep him at Massachusetts General Hospital was 48 to 72 hours, but he will now remain hospitalized to give the antibiotics a chance to work.

"He's actually doing a lot better today," Francona said. "It's more localized and he's feeling better. But it did take a little longer than we thought to kick in."

The Red Sox are still waiting for Saltalamacchia's blood work to be processed, and there's still no indication exactly what type of infection he has or how he got it.
