With Valentine's Day upon us, ESPNBoston.com asked Boston athletes which of their teammates need a hug.

As told to Louise K. Cornetta

Dustin Pedroia, Red Sox 2B: "Everyone gets love around here … kind of. Let's say Ryan Kalish. He did a great job when he has been up. He'll get a lot more attention in the next couple of years."

Delonte West, Celtics guard: "There's all grown men in here. Me? I don't need no hugs, you know what I'm saying? The going gets tough, the tough get going. I don't need no hugs. I do push-ups. I hope no man in here needs no hugs. I got enough hugs as a baby. I don't need no hugs now. Once I left the house, there weren't no more hugs for me. When I get sad, I punch brick walls. So no one needs a hug on this team. It's all grown men here. It's all soldiers in here. Ain't nobody hugging in here."

Tuukka Rask, Bruins goalie: "It's got to be Savy [Marc Savard]. Well you know, he's living by himself and he's got no girl. So I think he needs hug from girl."

Jacoby Ellsbury, Red Sox OF: "Pedey [Dustin Pedroia]. He just needs a hug. He's the guy that needs one."

Kendrick Perkins, Celtics center: "Each day is a different person. Each day a different person comes in with a different attitude and you can tell they need a hug. I don't know who it is today. Might be Nate [Robinson], might be Big Baby [Glen Davis], or might be KG [Kevin Garnett] if I had to pick today."

Nathan Horton, Bruins RW: "Mark Stuart. I felt badly for him when he busted up his hand. I like to give him one every now and then."

Felix Doubront, Red Sox LHP: "Mike Lowell, who retired. He had a lot of things happen to him this year, so he needs it. Like he needs a hug."

Ryan Kalish, Red Sox OF: "Give Lars [Anderson] more attention because it's funny to watch him talk. It just entertains me to hear him talk. His interviews are always so good. Wait … why did Pedroia say I need more love? Oh, thanks Pedey."

Mark Recchi, Bruins LW: "Savy [Marc Savard] could use one."

Glen Davis, Celtics forward: "KG, because he's so energetic."

John Lackey, Red Sox RHP: "Josh Beckett could use a hug. I can't get into why, but he definitely needs one."

Johnny Boychuk, Bruins defenseman: "Greg Campbell because he's always in game mode. A hug might lighten him up."

Nate Robinson, Celtics guard: "I say D-West [Delonte West] because the history of all the bad things people try and say about him. Well, he's a good guy. So my pick is him."
