Research Notes
The Tigers have had 4 straight games in which their starter went at least 5 IP an allowed 0 ER.
They are the 1st team in the last 100 seasons to have their starter allow 0 ER in 4 straight postseason starts of 5 innings or more. (ER became an official stat in 1913)
The 1974 Athletics had 4 straight starts of 0 ER, but one of their starters lasted only 4 1/3 IP. |
Jhonny Peralta: recorded 3 assists this regular season in which he made a barehand play.
He now has 2 this postseason after his play to end the 6th inning. |
Phil Coke: first 2-inning save against the Yankees in a postseason game since Steve Howe of the Dodgers closed out Game 6 of the 1981 World Series with 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. |
Hiroki Kuroda is just the second Yankee pitcher to have 7 K in the first three innings of a postseason game. The other was Orlando Hernandez in the opener of the 1999 World Series against the Braves.
Kuroda earlier became the fourth Yankee to have 5 K through the first two innings. |
