Flop talk costs Wallace $30,000

The NBA fined Celtics forward Rasheed Wallace $30,000 for publicly criticizing officials following Boston's 116-103 victory over Toronto on Friday night.

Wallace told reporters after Sunday's win over Miami that he plans to appeal the fine, but stopped himself from getting into more trouble, biting his tongue before elaborating on the subject.

"I'm definitely going to appeal that. I mean, what did I say wrong? You know, if they don't want ... No, I ain't going to do that," Wallace said to reporters before stopping in mid-sentence and smiling before departing.

After being whistled for a second-quarter technical foul against the Raptors, Wallace vented postgame about the call -- dubbing Toronto's Hedo Turkoglu a "flopper" -- and saying the NBA product had been watered down by such calls.

Said Wallace of Turkoglu:

"They've got to know that he's a damn flopper. That's all Turkododo do. Flopping shouldn't get you nowhere. He acts like I shot him.

"That's not basketball, man. That's not defense. That's garbage, what it is. I'm glad I don't have too much of it left."

Wallace also expressed his anger about teammate Paul Pierce being whistled for a technical foul after staring down Chris Bosh following a fourth-quarter dunk.

"This game is watered down, watered down with all that flopping. They're setting rules on us to the point where you're taunting if you dunk on somebody. Paul [Pierce] dunked it and then he didn't say nothing, but it's a tech.

Let the Golden Child [Cleveland's LeBron James] do that. Or one of the NBA Without Border kids do that, it's all fine and dandy."

Wallace is the NBA's career leader with 297 technical fouls to compliment 29 ejections, according to STATS Inc. He picked up another technical foul -- his seventh of the 2009-10 season -- in Sunday's win over the Miami Heat.

The $30,000 figure is noteworthy. Earlier this month, the NBA fined Orlando's Dwight Howard $15,000 for publicly criticizing officials on his blog, while New York's Al Harrington was hit with a $25,000 fine for publicly criticizing officials after a loss to Charlotte.
