Rajon Rondo (hamstring) returns

BOSTON -- Though Rajon Rondo was back in the starting lineup for the Celtics against the Toronto Raptors on Friday, the news wasn't as good for injured backup point guard Delonte West. Doc Rivers told reporters before the game that West will need surgery on his broken right wrist.

"He did tests today, CAT scan and two or three other tests. I haven't heard any of the results," Rivers said. "He's out for a while. He's gonna need surgery, but other than that I don't know what else to tell you."

West broke the wrist attempting to brace himself during an awkward fall after making a driving layup against New Jersey on Wednesday. There was no update on when West would have surgery.

Rondo had missed the previous three games with a strained left hamstring.

Rivers said Rondo was great in shootaround Friday morning. He said the team's recent injury woes didn't weigh in on the decision to play Rondo on Friday.

"We needed him tonight, but we were ready to do what we needed to do if Rondo didn't play," he said. "Listen, Rondo was out and we kept playing and kept winning. I think that's this team. Because of the way camp and this season has gone they're ready for anyone to be injured and just keep playing and keep winning. And I think that helps."

Rondo scored just four points and committed eight turnovers Friday, but he did hand out 14 assists and make three steals in the Celtics' 110-101 victory.
