On the heels of a one-goal loss to Boston University on Friday, the University of Massachusetts Lowell returned the favor Saturday night at Agganis Arena, dropping the Terriers, 3-2.

Ben Holmstrom scored the winning goal on the power play at 13:49 of the second period and Nevin Hamilton made 24 saves for the win. The victory boosts the River Hawks to 4-2-0 on the season, 2-1-0 in Hockey East. BU, ranked fourth in the most recent USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, falls to 2-3-0, 1-2-0.

The No. 8 River Hawks took a 1-0 lead at 9:32 of the first period on a power-play goal by Michael Scheu, and BU tied on Vinny Saponari's goal on the man-advantage early in the second.

But UMass Lowell regained the lead just 43 second later on Chris Auger's first goal of the season.

The River Hawks took a two-goal lead on a spectacular shot by Holmstrom from his knees. BU scored less than a minute later on a power-play strike by Kevin Shattenkirk but would get no closer.

BU beat UMass Lowell, 5-4, in overtime Friday night.
