BOSTON -- Moroccan Olympian Abdellah Falil has withdrawn from the Boston Marathon after his trans-Atlantic flight was repeatedly canceled because of the ash cloud from the Icelandic volcano.
A spokesman for race sponsor John Hancock told The Associated Press that Falil would not make it to Boston in time.
Falil, who competed in the 10,000 meters in Beijing, was originally planning to arrive in Boston on Wednesday. But he was repeatedly rescheduled after the eruptions spewed ash into the air that created a hazard for jets.
John Hancock spokeswoman Mary Kate Shea said early Sunday that Falil would not compete in Monday's race.
Organizers say that Europeans unable to pick up their bib numbers this weekend can do it Monday morning.
