FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady did not practice Wednesday. When the team released its participation/injury report, Brady was listed with a foot injury in addition to the right shoulder "injury" that has been listed on every injury report this season.
The Boston Globe reported that Brady has a sprained foot.
Brady held his regularly scheduled news conference earlier in the day and did not appear to limp at any point. He was not asked about any injuries, and he certainly did not talk like a player whose status for Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers was in doubt.
"I think we took quite a beating from our coach here the last couple days," Brady said. "[It was] well deserved and we need to start playing better, start playing more the way that we need to in order to execute better. You go into every game thinking these [things] are what we need to do to win, and it's frustrating when you come out of the game and you don't do those things. And it's great when you come out of the game and you do do those things. It will be great to try to get back on track this week."
Brady played deep into the fourth quarter of Sunday's 34-14 loss to the Browns, in which he was sacked once. He finished 19 of 36 for 224 yards with two touchdowns -- the 52.8 completion percentage was his lowest of the season -- and he was replaced for the final series with the outcome decided.
With Brady not practicing, second-year quarterback Brian Hoyer led the team's offense in practice. The only other quarterback on the roster is practice squad player Jonathan Crompton.
Brady has annually said how much he likes to practice because it's the primary way players get better.
Other than the knee injury that wiped out all of his 2008 season, Brady has never missed a start due to injury in his career.
This was the first practice Brady had missed all season.
Elsewhere at practice, safety Jarrad Page (calf), defensive lineman Myron Pryor (back) and safety James Sanders (not injury related) were held out, while safety Patrick Chung (knee), guard Stephen Neal (shoulder), running back Fred Taylor (toe) and defensive lineman Mike Wright (groin) were limited.
