FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The Patriots on Wednesday placed cornerback Jonathan Wilhite on injured reserve with a hip/hamstring injury. The team also confirmed the signing of veteran defensive lineman Louis Leonard, after he agreed to terms on Tuesday.
Wilhite had missed the last four games with the injury. He had 24 total tackles in the Patriots' first nine games.
Second-year cornerback Darius Butler has largely replaced Wilhite in his role as slot cornerback.
The signing of Leonard will provide depth along the defensive line, which has been thinned recently after injuries to Mike Wright (concussion), Myron Pryor (back), and Ron Brace (head). Also, veteran defensive lineman Gerard Warren missed time in Sunday's win over the Bears with a knee injury, although he returned in the second half.
