LOS ANGELES -- During a conference call on Wednesday, Boston Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli said he had reached out to the agent for unrestricted free agent Mark Recchi about keeping the veteran forward in Boston.
A source close to Recchi said Thursday night the sides are talking and could come to an agreement after the NHL draft. Earlier Thursday, another source said Chiarelli and Recchi were scheduled to have dinner here, but the first source denied that.
The 42-year-old Recchi, a future Hall of Famer, just completed his 21st season in the NHL with the Bruins last season, his first full year in Boston. He posted 18 goals and 25 assists for 43 points and spent the majority of the season on the top line with Patrice Bergeron.
