12/4/2002

Read through the five candidates below for Defensive Player of the Year and cast your vote in the poll on the left-hand side of the page.

Keith Brooking
A Pro Bowler last season, Brooking has helped make the Falcons one of the NFL's most improved teams. One of the keys to Atlanta's turnaround has been the play of their defense, which is only allowing 17.6 points per game.

Joey Porter
Porter, one of the best all-around linebackers in the NFL, has done a little bit of everything for the Steelers this year. He leads the Steelers in sacks (7) and interceptions (4).

Simeon Rice
Long considered a one-dimensional pass rusher, Rice has improved his overall play this season. In addition to improving against the run, Rice leads the NFL with 14.5 sacks and has recorded two-or-more sacks in a record five straight games.

Warren Sapp
The Bucs defense is the best in the NFL and Sapp is right in the middle of it. After struggling some last season with only six sacks, Sapp has 7.5 this season to go along with two interceptions.

Jason Taylor
Taylor has been a terror this season for the Dolphins. His ranks second in the NFL with 13 sacks behind Rice, putting Taylor well on the way to reaching a career-high (14.5).
