Cubs shutting down RHP Guzman

MESA, Ariz. -- The Chicago Cubs are shutting down right-handed pitcher Angel Guzman pending an exam, according to a source familiar with the situation.

Guzman was recovering from left knee surgery when he began to experience soreness in his right shoulder at the start of spring training on Feb. 17.

Guzman threw 30 pitches off flat ground on Monday, and the pain didn't subside.

Guzman is expected to undergo an MRI exam Friday afternoon.
