Blackhawks sign five players

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks signed forwards Evan Brophey, Nathan Davis and Hugh Jessiman, defenseman Jassen Cullimore, and goaltender Hannu Toivonen to one-year contracts on Wednesday.

The signings come a day after the Blackhawks secured right wing Igor Makarov to a two-year contract.

Brophey, 23, who was a third-round selection by the Blackhawks in the 2005 draft, had 14 goals, 17 assists, and 39 penalty minutes in 79 games with the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs ...
