Cubs sign Doug Davis

HOUSTON -- After losing two pitchers in their starting rotation to injuries, the Chicago Cubs signed veteran left-hander Doug Davis to a minor league contract.

The 35-year-old Davis is scheduled to go to extended spring training for the Cubs. He can earn more than $1.7 million in salary and bonuses this season if he makes the big league club, a source told ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick.
