Marlon Byrd hit in head by pitch

BOSTON -- Chicago Cubs center fielder Marlon Byrd left Saturday's 9-3 win over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park in the second inning after he was hit in the head by a pitch.

Byrd never lost consciousness but suffered a several-inch gash and swelling under his left eye. He was taken to a local medical facility, Massachusetts Eye and Ear, for evaluation. He remained in the hospital overnight to undergo a battery of tests to make sure he didn't suffer any broken bones or a concussion. ...
