Agent: Jake Dowell to become UFA

The Chicago Blackhawks decided not to "qualify" center Jake Dowell making him an unrestricted free agent on July 1, according to his agent Neil Sheehy.

Qualifying offers were due at 4 p.m. CT Monday and Dowell is the lone Hawks' restricted free agent not to be qualified.

Qualifying a player guarantees the Hawks the right of first refusal and compensation if another team makes an offer to the player starting on Friday. It also ties the player to the club for one year with a potential ...
