Soriano attributed some of his sloppy play in the outfield to the fact he couldn't put much weight on the leg. Soriano had another tough day in the field on Friday. He dropped a routine fly ball for his 10th error of the season in the fourth. He had a tougher chance glance off his glove in the eighth which allowed the New York Mets to score the go-ahead run.
The leg didn't seem to bother him at the plate, however, as he hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth that gave the Cubs a 5-2 victory.
Soriano's 10 errors nearly equal the 11 he had in 2007 and 2008 combined. He also has only six outfield assists this season, compared to 10 in 2008 and 19 in 2007.
Soriano's production is down at the plate, as well. He is hitting .243 with 20 homers and 55 RBIs this season and has been the target of boos at Wrigley Field.
Chicago Cubs left fielder Alfonso Soriano will have an MRI on his left knee Monday, an injury to which he has attributed poor defensive play.
