Mark Cuban knows owning the Chicago Cubs would have been a lot of fun. But given the reported $850 million price the Ricketts family paid, the outspoken owner of the Dallas Mavericks said the financial reality would have been too difficult.

"There's the coolness of owning it and then there is the reality of dealing with your bank," Cuban said Wednesday on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "From a coolness factor and a fun factor, it would have been amazing, but from a financial factor it would have been challenging."

Cuban was one of several bidders for the Cubs, who were eventually sold to Tom Ricketts and his family in October.

Cuban said he was surprised at the steep price tag the Ricketts family reportedly paid for the Cubs.

"I'm surprised they didn't negotiate it down some given that right as the process was going on the whole economy basically collapsed," Cuban said. "From my end it's one of those deals that I'm glad didn't close for me."

Cuban has no hard feelings toward Ricketts.

"He is obviously happy with it," Cuban said. "It remains to be seen how it turns out. I'm sure he's going to be great because his heart is in it and he wants to win. I wish him nothing but the best. I really don't know him so I really can't comment on how I think he will do."
