The Chicago Cubs and right-handed pitcher Juan Yasser Serrano, a defector from Cuba, have agreed to a $250,000 contract, according to a league source.

Major League Baseball still needs to sign off on the deal, and Serrano must pass a physical.

The Cubs are hoping to have him in camp before spring training ends, and the most likely destination is high Single-A or Double-A.

Numerous major-league teams looked at Serrano before he agreed to the deal with the Cubs. It's believed Serrano throws between 89-92 mph with a good breaking ball.
