The Chicago White Sox scratched Carlos Quentin from the lineup against the Texas Rangers on Thursday as he nursed a strained left hamstring.

Quentin has been struggling at the plate, hitting .183 with four home runs and 17 RBIs. But he homered, doubled, walked and scored twice Wednesday.

"If Carlos stays where he is right now, this kid is going to put up numbers," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. "The best thing he did was not swing at every pitch.

"He hit the ball to right-center, which is what he does the best. Just stay in the middle to right field and don't swing at the pitch he shouldn't swing. He's a better hitter and a very different hitter."

Juan Pierre filled in for Quentin at left field while Andruw Jones moved from left to right. Mark Kotsay was the designated hitter.
