In the wake of ESPN Boston reporting that the Chicago White Sox have contacted the Red Sox about Mike Lowell, Chicago's A.J. Pierzynski said he doesn't know if the team has what it takes to get Lowell, and he doesn't worry about other players.

"You're never going to talk about rumors," Pierzynski told "The Afternoon Saloon" on ESPN 1000. "Mike Lowell is a great player. Do we have what it takes to get him? I don't know, that's not my call."

Third baseman Mark Teahen was placed on the disabled list Tuesday with a fractured right middle finger that he suffered in Sunday's 8-5 win at Tampa Bay. General manager Ken Williams has said he expects Teahen to be out at least a month. Manager Ozzie Guillen said he would play both Jayson Nix and Omar Vizquel at third base while Teahen is out.

"I'm happy with Nix and Vizquel; they can fill in for however long [Teahen] is out," Pierzynski said. "We go with what we have, and we count on what we have. You never want to count on things that you don't have, and you're not guaranteed."

With the constant criticism surrounding the White Sox this season, Williams gave the team a vote of confidence Tuesday. Pierzynski said that's nice, but the players need to take care of business on the field.

"We just need to win," Pierzynski said. "It's nice of him to come out and say that he believes in this team, but at the same time, we have to prove his faith correct by going out and winning games."
