Silva experienced shortness of breath and left Sunday's game against the Colorado Rockies in the first inning.
He was stabilized at a Denver hospital, where he spent the night before returning to Chicago on Monday and being placed on the disabled list.
Monday's procedure will be performed by Northwestern cardiologist Bradley Knight. Inserting a catheter into a chamber of the heart will allow doctors to examine the muscle. A cardiac ablation can resolve some arrhythmias or "short circuits" in the heart's electrical pulses by deadening tissue in the region where the problem is occurring.
A similar test was performed on the Cubs' Mark DeRosa during spring training in 2008. The ablation was performed, and the irregular heartbeat was adjusted. DeRosa returned to playing baseball within 10 days.
