Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Silva, who underwent a minor heart procedure to correct an irregular heartbeat on Aug. 9, threw his second side session on Wednesday.

Silva threw 40 pitches under the tutelage of pitching coach Larry Rothschild.

He'll need one more side session before he's sent out on one rehab assignment, before returning to the Cubs staff, according to a team source.
