Manny Ramirez flying barber to Boston

Chicago White Sox designated hitter Manny Ramirez is flying his personal barber to Boston to have his hair cut before Friday's game against the Red Sox, Ramirez told ESPN's Pedro Gomez.

The White Sox have appearance standards set by owner Jerry Reinsdorf, who had A.J. Pierzynski and Joe Crede cut their hair in 2006.

"It seems like everywhere I go, people worry about my hair," Ramirez told Gomez after he went 1-for-3 Wednesday in his Sox debut, a 6-4 win over the Cleveland Indians. "I just want to go out there and play the game."

Ramirez uses the same barber as White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen and several other MLB stars, including Cliff Lee, Derek Jeter and David Ortiz. His name is Angel Pena, and his nickname is "Monster99." Ramirez's number is 99.

"I'm here in Boston to do a little mission," Monster99 said of the haircut on ESPN 1000's "Afternoon Saloon."

"Tomorrow … I guess you guys will find out what happens. "

Ramirez told Gomez that Pena was in Minnesota on Wednesday as the Twins were hosting the Detroit Tigers. It's uncertain who Pena was working on in Minnesota, but Ramirez may have a new look for his next game in Fenway Park.
