The Chicago Cubs are expected to interview Bob Melvin, a former manager for the Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks, for their managerial position sometime around the end of the season, a source confirmed Tuesday.

Melvin was a leading candidate for the Cubs' managerial job in 2003, but when Dusty Baker became available after taking the Giants to the World Series in 2002, the Cubs chose Baker, a source said.

Melvin then got the job as the manager of the Mariners.

He has a 493-508 record in two years as manager in Seattle and four-plus years with the Diamondbacks.

Melvin was fired in 2009 by the Diamondbacks and is currently a scout for the New York Mets.
