SAN DIEGO -- Kosuke Fukudome's 2010 season may be over after the Chicago Cubs right fielder sustained a left knee sprain while sliding during Wednesday night's game against the San Diego Padres.

Rookie Brad Snyder will play Thursday in the Cubs' finale against the Padres.

"When [trainer Mark O'Neil] saw him this morning, I said 'What do you think?'"Cubs interim manager Mike Quade said. "He said, 'No.'

"Then the next question was, 'Can he give me an at-bat late?' And that's even in doubt."

Quade plans to play younger players in the series this weekend to conclude the season against the Houston Astros.

"We'll have a lot more flexibility in the Houston series [because they're a non-contender]," Quade said. "It's not about getting him out there, even if he's hobbling."

Fukudome established a career high with 13 home runs this season. The 33-year-old was in a 1-for-12 slump before the injury took place.

He signed a four-year, $48 million deal on Dec. 19, 2007. He was a .306 lifetime hitter in Japan.
