Chicago Cubs' first baseman Micah Hoffpauir will sign with the Nippon Ham Fighters in Japan.

Hoffpauir has been with the Cubs for four seasons, including stints in their minor league system.

An official announcement is not expected until Friday, when Hoffpauir is expected to clear waivers.

There most likely will be an economic reward for the Cubs in the signing.
