CHICAGO -- Lastings Milledge, who was designated for assignment last week, cleared waivers and has accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Charlotte.
After the White Sox went through back-to-back 12-inning games at Kansas City last week, Jeff Gray was recalled to bolster the pitching staff. To make room on the roster for Gray, Milledge was exposed to the waivers process since he was out of minor league options.
The backup outfielder could have been claimed by any team or he could have signed with somebody else after he cleared, but he elected to remain in the White Sox organization.
At the time of the move, manager Ozzie Guillen praised Milledge for handling the situation in a professional manner.
Milledge played in two games for the White Sox, going 1-for-4 on the year.
