Chicago White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy felt he made progress in his latest rehab assignment with the Triple-A Charlotte Knights on Friday.

Peavy, who is recovering from surgery to repair a detached latissimus dorsi, threw 85 pitches over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out eight while allowing seven hits, three earned runs, one home run and no walks.

"I gave up a few runs, a two-run homer late, but I made a lot of good pitches," Peavy said. "I couldn't feel any better, stuff-wise. I thought I was much better than I've been in the past. I feel better than I have in quite some time."

Peavy hopes to have one or two more outings before he returns to the Sox rotation.

"I'd like to go in five days and I expect my body to respond," he said.

Peavy, whose home state of Alabama was recently hit with a spate of deadly tornadoes, said his family members were unharmed by the storms. He said he's working with the Red Cross to help.
