DEERFIELD, Ill. -- Keith Bogans will start at shooting guard for the Chicago Bulls when they open the season Wednesday on the road against the Oklahoma City Thunder, coach Tom Thibodeau announced Monday.

"He's just been solid," Thibodeau said. "He's done all the things we expected of him. He's a very good defensive player, spreads the floor so he can shoot the 3. He's a tough competitor. He's earned it."

Bogans beat out Ronnie Brewer, who suffered from a hamstring injury during the preseason.

"It surprised me, too," Bogans said. "But, like I said, I came in I worked hard and no matter if I come off the bench or if I start, I'm going to still play the same way."

Bogans started 59 games for the San Antonio Spurs last season. He was signed as a free agent to provide leadership, defense and 3-point shooting.

"I think Keith is somebody who understands Thibs' system," Joakim Noah said. "He's played for him before [in Houston], and he's a vet who understands what it takes to win and I enjoy playing with him."
