Bulls back in second round

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Bulls closed out the Indiana Pacers with a 116-89 victory in Game 5 of their playoff series, advancing to the Eastern Conference semifinals for the first time since 2007.

The Bulls will play the winner of the Atlanta Hawks-Orlando Magic series beginning on Monday at the United Center. Orlando routed Atlanta 101-76 on Tuesday, but still trail 3-2 in the series. Game 6 is Thursday in Atlanta.

The Bulls were 2-1 against the Hawks this season and 3-1 against the Magic, although Dwight Howard missed the most recent game between the two teams during the final weekend of the regular season because he was suspended.

The series victory is the first for Derrick Rose, who lost to the Boston Celtics in seven games in 2009 and was eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers in five games in 2010.

Rose will get plenty of time to rest his sprained left ankle. He played 30 minutes on Tuesday with the injury, scoring 25 points, including 12 in the third quarter.
