Demetri McCamey: Bulls interested
The Chicago Bulls have benefitted from drafting one homegrown point guard. Could another one be in their future?
Demetri McCamey, who starred at St. Joseph High School and at the University of Illinois, said the Bulls have expressed interest in him prior to attending to this week's pre-draft camp in Chicago.
"The Bulls already called me and said they want to bring me in and have high interest," McCamey said. "I was excited to hear about that."
McCamey and Derrick Rose are familiar with each other. They graduated from high school in 2007 and faced each other numerous times throughout their prep careers.
"I've known him since eighth grade," McCamey said. "Me and Derrick, two Chicago guys, doing it for the home team, that would be a dream come true. I grew up a Bulls fan."
Although they're the same age, McCamey has admired what Rose has achieved and wouldn't mind being his backup.
"He shows what you can do if you go and work hard," said McCamey, who has already had individual workouts with the Houston Rockets and Washington Wizards. "I go in there and he's mentoring me and I'm facing him every day, you have no choice but to get better."
McCamey averaged 14.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 6.1 assist as a senior for the Illini. ESPN NBA draft analyst Chad Ford projects him as a second-round selection.
