Former Connecticut guard Darius Smith joined Eastern Illinois' 2011 recruiting class on Wednesday.
Smith, who starred at Marshall High School in Chicago, was originally part of UConn's 2009 recruiting class and left the program after one season. He played at Southern Idaho junior college this past season. He averaged 8.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 3.1 steals while helping Southern Idaho to a 33-4 record and a national championship.
"Darius has been a part of outstanding basketball programs over the past six years that have been very successful," Eastern Illinois coach Mike Miller said in a statement. "His contributions have resulted in championships at all levels. His versatility as a guard will benefit us on both ends of the floor. We look forward to utilizing his quickness and experience."
Smith is Eastern Illinois' fourth Class of 2011 recruit.
