On the first day NCAA rules opened the door for college basketball coaches to attend open gyms and make in-home visits, Notre Dame coach Mike Brey wasted little time.
Brey secured the verbal commitment of 6-foot-5, 180-pound wing player Jerian Grant on Wednesday while visiting DeMatha Catholic High School in Washington, D.C., which also happens to be Brey's alma mater.
Grant is the son of former NBA forward Harvey Grant and the nephew of former Chicago Bulls forward Horace Grant. He chose the Irish over DePaul and Providence.
The younger Grant's older brother, Jerai, is a sophomore on Clemson's basketball team.
The Irish have now secured three verbal commitments for the early signing period in November. Earlier, ND received verbals from 6-1 point guard Eric Atkins of Columbia, Md., and 6-6 wing Alex Dragicevich of Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, Ill.
