Evan Frierson suspended after arrest
Illinois sophomore linebacker Evan Frierson has been suspended from the team following his arrest early Sunday for aggravated battery.
Police spokeswoman Rene Dunn says the 20-year-old Frierson was arrested just after midnight Sunday in Champaign after an argument and fight. She said Frierson is accused of punching two men who were standing in a crosswalk as cars tried to drive through. One of the men required medical attention.
Police said Frierson told the man to leave, but the man tried to spit on Frierson, prompting Frierson to react.
Frierson has appeared in nine games this season and recorded six tackles.
