Naperville North senior quarterback Matt LaCosse committed to Illinois on Monday night, his high school coach Sean Drendel confirmed.

LaCosse had previously been committed to Minnesota before Gophers coach Tim Brewster was fired. He chose the Illini over Minnesota and Purdue.

LaCosse, who is 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds, played quarterback for Naperville North, but is expected to play tight end at Illinois. The Huskies reached the Class 8A quarterfinals this season.

"Matt tried to gather enough information to make a sound decision, and he had three great schools to pick from and three great coaching staffs to deal with," Drendel said. "In the end, he took his time and made a very difficult decision, and he is very excited to play for his home state and the orange and blue of Illinois."
