ESPNU 150 Watch List Class of 2012 athlete David Perkins decided to stay home, committing to Notre Dame on Tuesday.

Perkins, who attends Washington High School in South Bend, Ind., chose the Irish over Michigan State, Mississippi State, Syracuse and Tennessee.

"It's a very good opportunity," Perkins said. "It's a decision made for after football also. At the beginning of the process, I really had no interest in Notre Dame. With time, the relationship began to get better. They started to recruit me harder. They just grew on me the more I talked to them and visited them."

Perkins, who is 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds, played running back, wide receiver, defensive end and outside linebacker for Washington last season. He said he was leaning toward playing outside linebacker at Notre Dame, but there was also an outside chance at running back.

Offensively, he rushed for 765 yards and three touchdowns and caught 12 passes for 176 yards and four touchdowns last season. Defensively, he had 63 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and 13 sacks.

Notre Dame has 10 Class of 2012 commitments.
