Cotts has Tommy John surgery
Cubs left-hander Neal Cotts had elbow ligament replacement surgery on Thursday night.
"I just got out of surgery and everything went well," Cotts said via text message.
Cincinnati-based surgeon Timothy Kremchek performed the surgery.
The procedure, commonly known as Tommy John surgery, is completely successful for a high percentage of players who have had the operation in the past. Recovery time is usually 11 months to a year before a player can return to full arm strength.
Cotts, a member of the 2005 World Series champion White Sox, has been with the Cubs since 2007. He struggled with his control before being optioned to Triple-A Iowa on May 27.
