Los Angeles Galaxy star David Beckham will miss Wednesday's game against the Chicago Fire at Toyota Park because he received a red card -- and automatic one-game suspension -- on Saturday.

"We all looked forward to this match and hosting the Galaxy and an international star like David Beckham, but this is how the game of soccer works, and when you have players like Temo Blanco and Landon Donovan on the pitch, fans are guaranteed an exciting and passionate game no matter what," Fire president Dave Greeley said.

It was the first red card Beckham received in three MLS seasons. He was ejected for a studs-up challenge of a Seattle player in the Galaxy's 2-0 loss to the Sounders.
