AKRON, Ohio -- After beating the USSSA Pride 1-0 earlier in Friday's doubleheader in the National Pro Fastpitch playoffs, the Bandits fell to the Pride 2-1 to force a deciding game Saturday afternoon.
Through six innings, Pride pitcher Sarah Pauly had a three-hit shutout going and a 2-0 to work with. Pauly finished with a complete game, allowing only one run on four hits while striking out four.
USSSA Pride catcher Shannon Doepking blasted a home run to left field in the fifth inning to start the scoring, while infielder Kristin Schnake hit a home run to center field in the seventh for the other Pride run.
Bandits first baseman Samantha Findlay smashed a home run to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Bandits could not get another run.
Bandits pitcher Eileen Canney picked up the loss, allowing two runs on six hits and five walks in six-plus innings of work. Canney struck out nine batters in the game.
