CHICAGO -- Chicago Fire midfielder Marco Pappa was named to the 2010 MLS All-Star First XI on Tuesday.

It is the first All-Star selection for the 22-year-old Pappa, who has been the team's main source of offense of late. Pappa's six goals in 14 matches rank him tied for fifth in the league and already surpass last season's previous career high of five goals. Pappa also is tied for second in game-winning goals with three.

"When you continue to work hard, people will notice, and you'll be valued as a player," Pappa said. "I want to thank everyone that voted, and we will do everything possible to play a good game."

The First XI were selected by voting from four groups -- fans, players, media, and coaches/general managers, and are not necessarily the starting XI for the All-Star match, which takes place July 28 against the English Premier League's Manchester United at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas.

The remainder of the MLS All-Star roster will be announced on Monday. It will include 10 coaches' picks and two Commissioner's selections.

The 2010 season has not been the smoothest for Pappa. Fire head coach Carlos de los Cobos was not satisfied with Pappa's play a couple months ago, and placed him on the bench for Chicago's May 27 match against FC Dallas.

But Pappa has turned into the team's most dominant offensive weapon since, posting four goals in a three-game span from June 5-27.

Also voted onto the team are goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts (L.A. Galaxy); defenders Omar Gonzalez (L.A. Galaxy), Chad Marshall (Columbus Crew) and Jamison Olave (Real Salt Lake); midfielders Dwayne De Rosario (Toronto FC), Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Javier Morales (Real Salt Lake) and Guillermo Barros Schelotto (Columbus Crew) and forwards Edson Buddle (L.A. Galaxy) and Landon Donovan (L.A. Galaxy).
