The Chicago Red Stars took out defending WPS champion Sky Blue FC 2-1 on Sunday, ending their own three-game slide along the way.

The victory also pushed the Red Stars (5-8-5) past Sky Blue (5-8-3) into fourth place in league standings.

"Anytime you can get a 'W' on the road, that will give you more confidence," Red Stars head coach Omid Namazi said. "It was a big win."

Karen Carney led the way for Chicago with a goal and an assist. Ella Masar added her team-best fifth goal of the season.

The Red Stars' road trip continues with a match against the FC Gold Pride on Saturday.
