LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs has been named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after recording eight tackles, two for a loss, one sack, an interception and a quarterback pressure in the Bears' 25-19 Week 3 victory over the Seattle Seahawks at Qwest Field.
His sack in the second quarter forced Seattle to punt and Chicago scored a touchdown on the ensuing drive to cut the Seahawks' lead to 13-7. Briggs' interception came on a diving play at the Seattle 14 to set up a field goal which extended Chicago's lead to 17-13.
This is Briggs' first career Player of the Week Award. This is the first Bears NFC Defensive Player of the Week Award since defensive end Adewale Ogunleye was honored in Week 1 last season.
