Jones, who played in 11 games and ran for 109 yards with the Bears in 2008 while trying to come back from foot and knee injuries that plagued him the previous two years in Detroit, was placed on injured reserve before the start of the 2009 season after tearing ligaments in his left ankle in the preseason finale against Cleveland.
Originally drafted in the first round by the Lions, Jones ran for over 1,000 yards in his first year in Detroit, but he missed the final three games of the 2006 season and the first two of 2007 because of a foot injury. Then he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee late that season. Jones was cut by the Lions after four seasons.
Jones signed a one-year deal with the Bears prior to the 2008 campaign, then returned to Chicago on a two-year deal the following spring.
The addition of Chester Taylor forced the Bears to clear space in a very crowded backfield.
