CHICAGO -- A Chicago Bears spokesperson confirmed Tuesday that Jim Cornelison will once again sing the national anthem at Soldier Field Sunday before the Bears take on the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game.
Chicagoland native Lee DeWyze, the 2010 winner of Fox's "American Idol", left the impression he would be doing the honors of performing the anthem Sunday, when he tweeted the following on Monday: "National Anthem at home, yes. Go Bears."
The Bears, however, made it clear their preference was to use Cornelison, who is known to Chicago fans for his inspired renditions of the anthem before Chicago Blackhawks home games. Cornelison also sang the national anthem at Soldier Field prior to the Bears 35-24 playoff win over Seattle the previous weekend.
DeWyze, a lifelong Bears fan, will instead perform at halftime according to officials.
