Chris Chelios will practice with the Chicago Wolves on Monday, when the team returns from Canada, ESPNChicago.com has confirmed.

ESPN 1000 was the first to report that Chelios had talked to the Wolves about being a player/coach. The Chicago Tribune reported Thursday that Chelios would skate with the Wolves, the Atlanta Thrashers' AHL affiliate.

Chelios also had been offered a deal to play in Russia. One factor that may influence Chelios to play in Chicago is his 18-year-old son, Jake, who plays for the Chicago Steel of the USHL in Bensenville, Ill.

Chelios is an unrestricted free agent after the Detroit Red Wings failed to offer him a contract following last season. Chelios has played in the NHL since the 1983-1984 season, including nine years with the Chicago Blackhawks.

He played 23 games for the Motor City Mechanics of the UHL during the 2004-05 lockout year, and two games last season with Grand Rapids of the AHL as he was rehabbing from a broken foot.

Chelios was last seen on the ice serving as a coach during the U.S. Olympic camp in early September. No word on whether the Wolves plan on signing the 47-year-old defenseman.
