Wolves shut door on Aeros


HOUSTON -- The Wolves clung to a one-goal lead for the final 22:42 on Sunday on their way to a 2-1 victory over the Houston Aeros.

Right wing Spencer Machacek scored the game-winning goal for the Wolves, who won for the third time in as many nights. While the Wolves were on the power play, Machacek picked up the puck and sent it past Houston goaltender Anton Khudobin at the 17:18 mark of the second period.

Center Jason Krog was also credited with a goal and an assist for the Wolves (8-7-0-1). Krog opened the scoring for Chicago.

Houston (9-9-0-0) tied it up on the power play 11:53 into the second period when Aeros center Nathan Smith one-timed a shot past Chicago goaltender Peter Mannino.

Mannino, who was starting his first game for the Wolves, thwarted 26 of 27 shots.

The Wolves conclude their six-game road trip against the Rockford IceHogs at the Rockford MetroCentre on Nov. 20 at 7 p.m.
