Blackhawks sign Norwegian center

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks signed Norwegian center Mathis Olimb to a one-year contract, the team announced Thursday.

Olimb, 24, played in the Swedish Elite League last season, leading Frolunda with 25 assists and earning 34 points in 55 regular-season contests. He added four points in seven postseason games.

The Oslo, Norway, native represented his country in the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, ranking second on the club with two assists in four games.

Olimb was a teammate of Hawks forward Dave Bolland when he played for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League during the 2004-05 season.
