Blackhawks cut eight from roster

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks made their first round of cuts on Tuesday to bring their training camp roster to 48.

Sent back to their junior teams were forwards Rob Flick, Byron Froese, Mirko Hoefflin and Phillipe Paradis, and goaltender Kent Simpson.

In addition, the Blackhawks have assigned goaltender Joe Palmer to the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs and released forward Steele Boomer and defenseman Dallas Jackson.

The roster of 48 is comprised of 28 forwards, 16 defensemen and four goaltenders.

The Hawks open the preseason on Wednesday in Winnipeg against Tampa Bay.
