CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks recalled Jeremy Morin from Rockford on Friday in time for the 19-year-old forward to play against his former team, the Atlanta Thrashers.

Morin, acquired in the trade that sent Dustin Byfuglien, Brent Sopel and Ben Eager to the Thrashers in June, was the talk of training camp. He was playing with Patrick Sharp and Patrick Kane on one of the Hawks' top lines and appeared headed toward a spot on the Hawks' opening night roster.

Morin may have been a salary cap casualty due to the Hawks needing to keep rookie defenseman Nick Leddy, 19, after Brian Campbell went down with a knee injury. Leddy has since been sent down to Rockford.

Morin leads Rockford with three power-play goals and has registered four points (three goals, assist) and a plus-1 plus/minus rating in eight games with the IceHogs. Atlanta's second pick (45th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Morin was tied for second on the Blackhawks with four points (goal, three assists) in six preseason games.

The Blackhawks play the Thrashers on Saturday.
